Alpha-Glycerylphosphorylcholine Increases Motivation in Healthy Volunteers: A Single-Blind, Randomized, Placebo-Controlled Human Study
Purpose
To investigate whether alpha-GPC supplementation affects motivation and anxiety levels in healthy individuals.
Methods
A single-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study enrolled 39 healthy adults. Participants took either 400 mg/day of alpha-GPC or placebo for two weeks. Emotional states were recorded three times daily using the KOKORO scale app for four weeks (two pre-treatment, two during treatment).
Results
Alpha-GPC group showed a statistically significant increase in motivation scores at night (p < 0.05).
No effect observed on anxiety scores.
No adverse effects or safety issues reported.
Suggests alpha-GPC may modulate dopaminergic circuits to enhance motivational states.
Conclusion
Alpha-GPC appears to enhance self-reported motivation in healthy adults during evening hours without affecting anxiety or causing side effects. This supports its use as a short-term mood and motivation enhancer. Future research should explore long-term effects and neurochemical mechanisms.
